Director's Letter Continued / next - back

Skin

It’s not a tough skin you develop,
but one so smooth that grief
slides off your body
leaving a trail of thick globs where you’ve walked.

There’s no time to retrace your steps to
mop it up.
It’s all forward motion as
you plant
one foot in front of the other.

But every now and then,
you get stuck in it.
You hesitate.

You wiggle your toes discreetly.
You give a little yank
thrusting yourself into the next experience
without so much as a backward glance to see if
you’ve left a footprint.
